Vintage Looks Highlight Lisa Kline's Sexy Fashions
Looking sleek in her favorite line, Foley, Lisa Kline doesn’t mince words. “My show is about being sexy and looking hot,” said the 32-year-old owner of her self-named boutiques for men and women on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Indeed, she made sure to deliver well-heeled and scantily clad models down the runway at her Fall 2002 fashion show held Aug. 16 at the Highlands nightclub at the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex.
Vintage inspirations in scarves, ponchos and shawls along with denim-driven casual and funked-up styles, including a beige strapless dress by Foley worn over Miss Sixty jeans and a mohair poncho by Sonia Vassi paired with a vintage wraparound scarf and Blue Cult jeans, were the trend highlights of the season, according to Kline. Dresses staged a comeback in bold patterns by Redd and Shoshanna.
Signature to the event were the H. Starlet pasties—which were peeking through a Juicy pink velour hoodie—lace-up pants by Electric Barbarella, and feminine party looks by Foley. Top lingerie fashions included a flame-print bra and boy-brief panties by Tuffgirl, a lace camisole and panty by Cosabella, and men’s-inspired pink briefs by Saints Lounge worn with a cotton camisole by La Cosa.
Far from fanciful, guys sported classic looks in button-up Paul Smith shirts in easy-fitting, corduroy styles and striped designs accented with rose leaves and thorns. Oxford Slut was another shirt line featuring screen prints of rock bands. Denim and corduroy bottoms by Theory, Paper Denim & Cloth and Paul Smith complemented the outfits. A Pony set was also on display for men feeling left out of the velour athletic craze.
Known for her marathon events, Kline promised a scaleddown show of about 30 minutes thanks to the help of Sam Martin Public Relations. Instead of two hours, the event was over in less than 40 minutes.
“I’m not an organizer and [Martin] can really put a show together,” Kline said.
Kline recently expanded her boutique to 3,050 square feet, adding lines William B., Miss Sixty, Iskander, Blue Cult and Rebecca Taylor.
Her hottest seller? “Shawls—I can’t keep them in stock, especially my private-label vintage looks,” she said. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
