Pac Sun Techs Up Operations
Anaheim, Calif.-based retailer Pacific Sunwear of California is launching a new suite of software aimed at helping it run more efficiently by monitoring existing software systems as well as Web-based applications and e-mail.
The company contracted Houston-based Scalable Software Inc. and its Survey v.2.1 product suite to help it detail usage time spent on applications, e-mail, pre-selected URLs and the Internet. The aim is to reduce downtime and save money.
“This is exactly what we needed in a software management tool, providing an enterprise view of what software is installed, who is using it—or not—and how best to redeploy those licenses,” said Ron Ehlers, vice president of information services for Pacific Sunwear. “It ultimately saves us money in software and support costs. As we continue to use the product, we are discovering ways to proactively manage software compliance and improve worker productivity.”
The company has been investing big in technology. It recently upgraded its hardware infrastructure with new servers, fiber and wireless capabilities as well as software. —Robert McAllister
