Tag-It Gets Two-Year Deal With Levi's
Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Tag-It Pacific Inc. has struck a $10 million deal with San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Co. to become its principal supplier of garment components over the new two years.
Tag-It produces trim products such as waistbands, rivets, labels, threads, etc. for leading apparel brands Tommy Hilfiger, the Limited, Armani Exchange and Abercrombie and Fitch, among others. Its Talon zipper subsidiary will also be part of the deal and will supply zippers for Levi’s.
The company has gained interest since it recently unveiled a new waistband technology, which it says dramatically improves the fit and comfort of trousers. The patented technology, which the company is licensing from Pro-Fit Holdings Ltd., allows pants makers to build in a stretch factor into standard waistbands that does not alter the appearance of the garment, but will allow the waist to stretch out and back by as much as two waist sizes. The process infuses a rigid fabric with a permanent mechanical stretch, which is sewn into the waistband.
“This agreement is a further validation of our strategy, which is focused on growth through product innovation, brand building and meeting customer needs,” said Tag-It chief executive officer Colin Dyne.
Dyne said the deal should produce significant contributions to company revenues. The company finalized the purchase of Talon last December and since then has broadened distribution to Asia, Mexico and Central America as well as negotiated with new distributors and initiated a new sales and marketing campaign. Talon zippers are promoted both within Tag-It Pacific trim packages and as a stand-alone product line. Talon recently launched its metal jeans button, rivet and snap business under the Talon Fastener name. —Robert McAllister
