No Talking
Talks have been suspended for three weeks between West Coast dockworkers and shippers, and representatives of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) granted the negotiating committee the authority to call for a strike. The Pacific Maritime Association, an organization of major shipping lines, said the ILWU’s actions are a “threat to an already fragile economy.” This represents the first setback since contract negotiations began three months ago. The ILWU’s contract expired July 1, but port activity has continued uninterrupted during the negotiations.
