CMC to Honor Local Latin Designers
The California Market Center (CMC) will honor local designers Estevan Ramos, Alicia Lawhon, Alan Del Rosario, Eduardo Lucero, Cynthia Vincent, Freddi Rojas and Tova Celine during the Los Angeles Fashion Week opening night party on Aug. 9.
The event kicks off the first market under the direction of Lorelyn Eaves, vice president of marketing for apparel, gift and home for the CMC, which houses the California Mart.
“The August market should sizzle with our kickoff salsa event on [opening] night honoring L.A.’s Latino designers, tenants’ individual floor promotions and new showroom openings in apparel, gifts and home accessories,” said Eaves. “We look forward to showcasing other important contributors to the L.A. fashion and style scene during the year and will continue to focus on creating a marketplace the retail community can’t afford to miss.”
The party, set for 6 p.m. on the Atrium patio, will feature live salsa music by Latin jazz artist Johnny Polanco and his band and dance instruction by choreographer Albert Torres—known as “Mr. Salsa.” Los Angeles Times fashion writer Michael Quintanilla will be on hand to introduce the designers.
“The Latino influence is of great importance in Los Angeles culture,” said Karen Mamont, director of public relations and marketing for the Cal Mart. “The California Mart recognizes these contributions and influences and is proud to honor the contributions of our Latino designers. We have selected designers who are some of Los Angeles’ hottest contemporary style makers and are innovative representatives of L.A.’s multi-faceted and distinctive cultural face.”
