L.A. Fashion Week Fall '02: Get L.A.I.D.
Los Angeles Independent Designers: Get L.A.I.D.,” a fashion show presented by Millhouse Public Relations for its roster of local talent, took place on April 13 in a spiffed-up downtown loft space.
L.A. gangsta rap meets Versace on the runway was the theme of Ghia C. Fam’s 14-piece collection, which featured baggy embossed nylon jackets, herringbone trousers with metallic stripe and delicate gold chain. The models for the collection wore bands around their heads and cryptic tattoos, redefining the term “street chic.”
Carol Ai Tran’s functional Asian-inspired linen dresses with wool belts and mint green body-hugging silk/polyester dresses were crowd pleasers. The designer also paired kimono-style blouses with circle pants (narrowly cut gaucho pants with a flair) and stilettos.
Other designers in the show included Donny Barrios, Tamir Golan, Armine Petrosyan and John J. Sakalis. Kudos to Millhouse for its first fashion program, which producer Tu M. Tran said may be incorporated into a permanent show during future fashion weeks. —Claudia Figueroa
