Woodbury to Honor Fonda, Ridge
Actress Bridget Fonda and costume designer John David Ridge will be honored by Woodbury University during its 38th annual fashion show, titled “Theatre de la Mode,” to be held May 5 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
The show, whose honorary chairman this year is Helen Gurley Brown of Cosmopolitan magazine, will feature 100 entries designed by Woodbury students in the categories of couture, sportswear, swimwear, formalwear, career looks and menswear.
Ridge, former vice president and design director at Halston, is a Tony-nominated designer who has contributed to such films and Broadway productions as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “American Beauty,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Sunset Boulevard” and “Phantom of the Opera.”Fonda is known for her starring roles in such movies as “Single White Female,” “Jackie Brown” and “A Simple Plan.”
The theme of the show refers to the traveling exhibition of 1946 that reestablished the preeminence of French haute couture in the postwar period while affirming fashion’s fundamental relationship to theater.
Heather John, senior style editor for the Los Angeles Times Magazine, will emcee the show.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show starts at 5:15 p.m. General admission tickets are $50, with a VIP package that includes the show, cocktails and dinner available for $150 per person. Sponsorships between $500 and $5,000 also are available.
