Nationwide Employment Rose
Nationwide employment rose 58,000 in March, according to the Department of Labor, but new jobs remained few, a fact which caused unemployment to increase to 5.7 percent from 5.5 percent in February. Manufacturing employment dropped by 38,000, but that marked the smallest decrease since late 2000, signaling a possible end to the job decline in the manufacturing sector.
