Ace Ross Opens Quick-Turn Production Facility
Ace Ross, owner of junior and tween label Ace Ross Studios, has opened a production facility for his American Clothing Enterprises in the heart of downtown Los Angeles to handle cutting, sewing and sampling.
Ross said he decided to open the facility after having difficulty getting smaller orders filled.
“When you are faced with cutting 60 pieces, no one wants to do it and it really hurt me last year,” said Ross. “Now I found a way to do it myself and keep the quality and creativity outstanding.”
According to Ross, production in California has been complicated by “a crackdown on illegal sweatshops by the [State] Labor Commissioner and the lack of business over the past few months.”
Ross noted that his new facility produced a 16,000-piece order in 10 days.
“I can handle small cuts now,” said Ross. “My line is doing well in [both] Fred Segal [locations], and I can cut and sew just for Fred Segal.”
Ross said that the facility has a feeling reminiscent of New York’s garment district.
“You can feel the energy of hard-working people in the building,” he said. “You can hear the buzz of the sewing machines when you weave through the hallways.” —Darryl James
