Target, Kohl's to Join Upland Center
Target, Kohl’s Department Stores and Chick’s Sporting Goods have inked leases to open at the Colonies Crossroads, a $550 million retail/residential project in Upland, Calif.
Target has signed on for 125,000 square feet, Kohl’s for 86,500 square feet and Chick’s for 50,000 square feet.
In the pipeline are deals with a national linens company and a pet supply store, according to Dan Richards, co-chairman of Colonies Crossroads.
Colonies Crossroads is a joint partnership between Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based Colonies Crossroads Inc., an investor in the property, and shopping center developer Pacific Development Group of Newport Beach, Calif. The center will be built at the intersection of Campus Avenue and the new Foothill Freeway (I-210) extension.
Along with 1 million square feet of retail, the total development will include a 434-acre master-planned community comprised of 1,100 single-family homes.
Richards said the center will break ground this October and will open by summer 2003.
He cites the strong demographics of the area as key to attracting retailers. More than 470,000 residents live within the expanded trade area, and the average household income within one mile of the project is more than $110,000. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
