'Putting Things in Perspective'
NEW YORK—New York’s fashion industry was left scrambling in the wake of one of the most devastating terrorist assaults in history, as organizers put a halt to the much-anticipated fashion week.
Earlier in the week, fashiongoers witnessed standout shows by Tommy Hilfiger, House of Field, Betsey Johnson and BCBG Max Azria. However, the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center brought a halt to the week’s events.
“It pretty much brought a stop to fashion week and now people need to catch a breath,” said Kenneth Cole coordinator Evert Muniz. “It also puts things in perspective for an industry that is so consumed with fashion.”
Muniz said several employees at Cole’s midtown showroom were concerned about the whereabouts of family members and loved ones who work on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Added Muniz, “When people are traumatized they react differently, especially after a disaster of this magnitude. I think we’re going to be feeling this shock for a while.” —Claudia Figueroa
