West Coast Fashion Summit
A group of designers offering a wide range of urban designs, from the street stylings of Sean John and Meoshe, to the African-inspired looks of Ghana’s Ahneva Ahneva, to the American patriotic styles of newcomer Kenneth Mack, took to the stage at the annual West Coast Fashion Summit, part of the Los Angeles Black Business Expo held Sept. 22–23 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
An audience of more than 4,000 was on hand to watch the fashion show. Altogether, the event showcased 13 designers and their work, which was displayed with flair and perfectly choreographed to contemporary urban music.
The show, dubbed the West Coast X-Treme Fashion Show, opened with the leather designs of Sterling Capricio, with models transformed into sci-fi super-heroines, followed by the elegant evening gowns of Dorcas by Casonna Gibson.
Highlights of the show were Kenneth Mack’s patriotic tribute to America, which included models marching onto the stage holding American flags, and the offerings from The Disney Co., which featured its new It’s A Small World and Monsters, Inc. collections. The adorable child models for Disney’s clothing stole the show as they blew kisses to the audience.
Other designers showing at the summit included Teres McClen, Ameru, DaDa Footwear, Ericka Mays and Deviations.
