Grey Ant
Designer Grant Krajecki presented his fashion-forward Grey Ant designs for Spring 2002 at the 1650 nightclub in Hollywood on Nov. 2.
It took two steps to get into the unmarked club for most of the attendees, who stood in line against the venue’s outside wall to gain access to the foyer, then stood in a crowd there before being granted access to the actual club. The show got off to a fashionably late start, which surprised no one, since the outside doors had opened late.
The club’s environment—a 1970s-inspired disco motif, complete with suspended mirrored ball—was perfect for the show, which featured dance performances by Los Angeles-based dance troupe Psycho Dance Sho in between each set of presented garments. Onlookers gathered around the makeshift runway to examine Krajecki’s latest spin on early ’80s style. The show included eveningwear, everyday wear and party apparel, marked by adornments of lace designs, screen-printed faces and mostly bright colors for both men and women.
The show ended as abruptly as it began, with Krajecki appearing on stage as if he had just stepped out of the crowd, wearing a basic T-shirt and jeans and sporting a drink in hand. —Darryl James
