BCBG Halts Men's Line
Max Azria, founder, designer and president of the BCBG Max Azria label, announced last week he will shutter his menswear division before the Fall 2001 shipment. The Vernon, Calif.-based company cited an improper focus of the line and announced plans to re-launch the segment at a later date with proper direction.
“The BCBG Max Azria Menswear product did not accurately reflect the vision of Max Azria. Azria has decided to take a step away from this product category to ultimately restructure it and re-launch it in a way that clearly reflects the image of the brand. For the time being, Azria has decided to redirect his energy and focus on core competencies in his growing women’s collections,” said a company spokesperson.
The closing will not deeply impact employees for the menswear segment, who more than likely will be absorbed by the women’s lines, the spokesperson said.—Darryl James, Menswear Editor
