Hong Kong Sets Fashion Week Schedule
Hong Kong Fashion Week will kick off July 10 with the Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza, a show featuring the work of 11 designers and labels, including Bonita Cheung, Shanghai Tang, Virginia Lau and Tony Chow.
The fashion week, which runs through July 13, will include eight fashion shows, including solo shows from labels such as Moiselle International, Nylstar Asia Pacific and Butoni Ltd., and group shows such as the Asia Pacific Fashion Designers show, the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association show and the Hong Kong New Fashion Collection Award show.
Local manufacturers are working with 17 local designers to present their lines in the Hong Kong New Fashion Collection Award show, in which awards will be presented for creativity, marketability, best use of fabrics, best application of technology and best overall. Judges for the New Fashion Collection awards include Kenneth Fang, chairman of Fang Brothers Knitting; Magdalena Lee, chief executive officer of M. Magtague Co.; Sarah O’Donnell, chief operating officer of HK Seibu; Christopher Cheng, chairman of Wing Tai Corp.; Marjorie Yang, chairperson of Esquel Group; Li Xin, assistant president of the China Fashion Designers Association; Olivia Wong, editorial director of Marie Claire, HK Edition; and Kim Chou, fashion creative director of Fashion & Beauty.
United States retail, the effect of global information on trends, and color and fabric forecasts will all be covered in the slate of seminars scheduled during the week as well. Cotton Inc. will present an overview of the U.S. retail market and the New York-based organization’s Fall/Winter 2002/2003 color and fabric forecast. Peclars Paris will present color and textile trends for Fall/Winter 2002/2003. The Worth Global Style Network will hold a seminar titled “The Impact of Global Information,” which will also include trend forecasts for Spring/Summer 2002 and Fall/Winter 2002/2003. And the Institute of Textile & Clothing at Hong Kong Polytechnic University will hold a seminar covering the use of information technology to gather data on trends, product design and technical expertise.
