In the era of futuristic stores stocked with computer-friendly clothes, wired with everything from temperature controls to MP3 players, even the apparel hangtags are getting smarter. San Diego-based Trellion Technologies is now offering TagCD, a digital version of the traditional hangtag.
Of course, that means that the lowly hangtag that once offered only price and size information now becomes a “dynamic, cost-effective advertising/promotional branding medium that offers instant rich media content via a 3.25quot; mini CD-ROM,” as the company puts it. Consumers take the “tag” home, pop it into the nearest computer, and voilaacute;: multimedia programming, state-of-the-art animation, full-motion video, enhanced audio, digital artistry and advanced technologies, and, according to the company, all the information is updatable on the Net at the consumer’s discretion.
Early adopters of the TagCD include Toes on the Nose, a Costa Mesa, Calif.-based surfwear maker.
