Harriet Berger Passes Away

Retired textile converter Harriet Berger passed away Nov. 17 from brain cancer. She was 73.

Berger was a co-owner of Los Angeles converting company the Print Works.The New York native moved to California in the 1940s and first made her career in the restaurant supply business, running Elster’s Restaurant Equipment Co. with her first husband.

She married Jack Berger in 1972 and the two founded the Print Works, catering to the local swim industry.

Harriet Berger was an avid tennis player and amateur pilot in her youth. After she and her husband retired in 1992, the two moved to Leisure World in Laguna Hills, Calif. In her retirement, she became an active contributor to various philanthropic organizations, including City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. She and her husband also traveled extensively, according to her stepson Ken Berger, who described his stepmother as “an all-around good person.”

Berger is survived by her husband, children Jeri Elster and Lee Jay Elster, stepchildren Ken and Russ Berger and brother Bert Balsam.

Services for Berger were held on Dec. 4. Donations in Harriet Berger’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
