My Tee
My Tee designer Chrissy Azzaro earlier this year launched a line of reversible handbags and totes made from vintage fabrics. Now she has set her sights on T-shirts, with a whimsical line of candy-colored tees featuring images from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
“I combined a little bit of today thrown in with yesterday,” Azzaro said.
Pinup girls from the ’40s and women dressed in ’50s-style rodeo costumes are just a few of the images Azzaro uses in her line. The designer purchases original art or culls outdated catalogs, old Harper’s Bazaar magazine ads and Betty Crocker cookbooks for inspiration for her graphics.
My Tee’s signature style is a cotton and lace–trimmed rib-knit tee with crystal embellishments. Wholesale price points range from $11 for a tank top to $23 for long-sleeved T-shirts.
“My line is definitely about keeping things on a fun note,” Azzaro said. “A lot of today’s graphic designs are hardcore—most of the slogans are about empowerment and being tough. I wanted to make a T-shirt that would create a softer edge.”
Azzaro also sells an assortment of matching flip-flops with jewel embellishments.
Her line is currently sold in Southern California at Planet Blue in Malibu, Topanga Homegrown in Topanga Canyon and Jacqueline Jarrot in Los Angeles’ Beverly Center. My Tee will be also be featured at MAGIC in booth #YC51326 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center. For more information, call (323) 662-8004. —Claudia Figueroa and Darryl James
