Maxim Mag Launches Fashion Publication
Dennis Publishing, publishers of Maxim, the lifestyle magazine that entered the market decades after GQ and Details, with a publication that mixes modern lifestyle information with enough sexy photos and sex information to keep it interesting, has launched a new title, Maxim Fashion, dedicated to men’s style.
The fashion publication takes the same irreverent approach to men’s magazine journalism found in the flagship magazine Maxim. In the premiere issue, editor-in-chief Greg Williams writes: “Given that we’re a style magazine, I’ll offer you this tip: Forget the return of the navy suit or the renaissance of color in menswear; the best piece of advice you’ll get this season comes from Wyclef Jean: ’Guys, don’t leave the crib with dirty drawers on. You never know when you gonna get some.’”
The features are all style-oriented, but still manage to be lifestyle-oriented, as well as star-powered and sex-tinged. Candace Bushnell, the writer who inspired HBO’s “Sex and the City,” provides insight to appropriate cleavage and men’s fashion do’s and don’ts. In an interview with rap star Wyclef Jean, the magazine profiles the musician’s affairs with fashion, from the undesirable clothing designed and cut by his father as an impoverished child in Haiti to the free fashions he garners as a rap star, to the personally-designed garments laid upon him by his designer wife.
The premiere issue of Maxim Fashion features contributions of writers from Vanity Fair, Penthouse, The Face and British GQ, and photographers from Vibe, Vogue and The New York Times. The magazine will be published twice yearly. —Darryl James
