Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall 2001: The Wasteland
Glittering gowns from the Roaring ’20s and the more contemporary chain-heavy glam “gangsta”-rap look graced the runway of “Timeless,” a retrospective of fashion hosted by The Wasteland, the Melrose Avenue vintage retailer. Fashion from ’60s designers including Rudi Gernreich, Hanae Mori, Emilio Pucci and Hattie Carnegie were displayed on and off the runway for sale. Highlights of the show included vintage Western, mod, flapper and disco attire that would look just as cool—if not cooler—worn today. The show, which included a mix of professional models and good sports, was one of the most fun and dramatic fashion shows of fashion week. —Andrea Bermudez
