Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall 2001: Collective Fashion Show
The mood was mod at the California Mart’s Collective Fashion Show held on March 30 in the Cal Mart lobby. Fleure de Peche and Johnny Was showed color-blocked wovens and knits in earth and spice tones. David Park’s collection included dresses and separates in red and cream and black and cream geo-stripes; a crowd favorite included a shirt with bandage-wrap sleeves. NC Love paired suede and denim in a trench coat and vertical-striped skirt. Other designers took the minimalistic approach to mod: CK Collection by Calvin Klein included crisp, simple coats in cool colors such as sand and spruce. Max Studio paired tweeds and stripes in muted earth and flesh tones. But the show was not all clean shapes and bold graphics. Several designers’ offerings included Edwardian details such as Single’s cutaway coat with diagonal darts and Johnny Wonder and Mirela Lomota’s leather pants with vertical ruffles. —Alison A. Nieder
